The Mod collection is inspired by the bold lines, geometric forms and innovative spirit of modernist architecture with echoes of Africa’s dynamic urban landscape. Modernist architecture sought to break boundaries. Africa’s cities blend heritage and forward looking design. This collection translates those spatial ideas into wearable art that speaks to the rhythm of contemporary life.
Conceived and handmade in the Durban, South Africa studio of Xavier Clarisse, each piece is crafted from quality, locally sourced, vegetable tanned leather manipulated in a distinctive way. Veg tanning is an ancient process where rawhide is tanned in tannins from natural plant matter. It is an incredibly durable, eco-friendly and beautiful leather. The dyes and finishing products used are internationally certified and free from harmful substances.
Like any quality item made from veg tanned leather your item will start out a bit stiff. Much like a pair of good shoes you need to break it in a little. This is actually one of the benefits of veg tanned leather - the breaking in process will create an item that is unique to you.
