The Linear range is inspired by the optical illusions of Op Art, the lines of Art Deco, and the bold, expressive patterns of tribal African design. Merging Western traditions with Africa’s powerful tribal aesthetic creates jewellery pieces that are hypnotic and rooted. Patterns interplay like rhythms – each piece is a wearable dialogue between form and heritage.
Conceived and handmade in the Durban, South Africa studio of Xavier Clarisse, each piece is crafted from quality, locally sourced, vegetable tanned leather manipulated in a distinctive way. Veg tanning is an ancient process where rawhide is tanned in tannins from natural plant matter. It is an incredibly durable, eco-friendly and beautiful leather. The dyes and finishing products used are internationally certified and free from harmful substances.
Like any quality item made from veg tanned leather your item will start out a bit stiff. Much like a pair of good shoes you need to break it in a little. This is actually one of the benefits of veg tanned leather - the breaking in process will create an item that is unique to you.
